The store is actually a show house, complete with bespoke furniture and decor for each room

Taking a page out of interior designers and architects such as Gauri Khan and Ashiesh Shah, who all own eponymous brands and practices, Nitin Kohli has finally rebranded his Mehrauli store in Delhi — which has been around since 2000 as Furncraft Decollage— to arrive at Nitin Kohli Home. The 4,000-square-foot “show house” located at Ambawatta One, near the Qutub Minar, follows Nitin’s modernist aesthetic. “The new style is uber chic, yet classy,” quips Nitin.

Nitin Kohli Home: Contemporary and Classic
While the postal address and the foundations of the building remain the same, Kohli has spruced up the store to suit the occasion. You enter a plush foyer that leads to a casual lounge area and then, the atmosphere becomes more classic as you explore the living room, dining space and the master bedroom. The mood lightens up again in a playful bedroom on display alongside, suited for a teenager.

“We have increased our display area and crafted a new layout for the store,” says Nitin. The colour scheme of the upholstery is also on point with current seasonal design trends. “So the former half of the store stocking contemporary lines of furniture is decked in blue-green hues from the latest Pantone palette, while the latter is adorned in salmon pink and softer shades of greys and beige to render a classic, formal ambience,” he adds.

“Art plays the most important role to complement any space. Going with the flow of the décor we have displayed different art forms. In the hip and trendy section, catering to the young and vibrant age group we have displayed my own photographs taken from travels around the world: Brooklyn street lamp posts, the Eiffel Tower on a busy morning, Gulmarg in January and a hot summer day at Sukna Lake, Chandigarh. They are trendy, reasonable and can be changed with time,” elaborates the avid photographer. Elsewhere, we have a mixed media range of art on canvas with vibrant splash of colours. This art ranges from abstract to florals in extremely contemporary designs.

Nitin Kohli Home: an Avant Garde Statement
Avant Garde is the first furniture line to be launched at the new premise: signature bespoke pieces with impactful silhouettes. “We have specially created a range of lighting, carpets and art to complement the Avant Garde collection. We do not carry any other brand,” emphasizes Nitin. The collection embodies a tapestry of modern hues and classic shades, along with an effervescent style that lends the pieces an avant-garde vibe. Embracing a new identity hasn’t been as easy as it looks. “This was one of the most difficult decisions for me. It was like taking away one’s identity at absolute risk!” Nitin admits.
