Hamptons House by Julie Hillman
Designer Julie Hillman once traded the fashion world for interior design. Since then, for fifteen years now, it has been designing houses, apartments and offices and has been seeking a balance between the desires of customers and its own ideas about beauty.

When the client called and asked to arrange a country house in the Hamptons, Julie Hillman immediately realized that it would be a great project, about which she will have pleasant memories.

Women met in the early 2000s — both worked in the fashion world. The acquaintance developed into a friendship that led to Hillman’s first official order for interior design: a friend acquired an apartment in the state of New York. Today Julie is one of the most famous designers in New York, and then she took only the first steps in working with interiors and perceived this occupation as a hobby. It was after that friendly project that she decided to change her profession.

For fifteen years, Julie managed to make a decent career in design, and then her friends met again on the project: rework required a country house in Amagansett in East Hampton on Long Island. “The building has already been designed and built,” explains the designer. - The former owner was a builder, but went bankrupt, and he had to sell the house. He did everything for himself, so the materials here are of the highest quality. ”

The house is quite typical for these places: white painted siding and tile roof. The one-story building is surrounded by a large dense garden and covers an area of ??750 m2. The hostess expected to come here with her children.

“When I first saw this house,” recalls Julie, “I liked the harmonious space. For my taste, it was possible to change nothing, so I fully concentrated on the desires of the new owner. ” Over the years of friendship, both women had the same idea of ??the beautiful, they knew what kind of atmosphere they want to create here: “young, eclectic and fashionable”.

As a result, it was decided to make the interior light and clean. There was one difficulty: the joinery elements in the house (they didn’t want to change their new owner) turned out to be very dark and attracted too much attention. Therefore it was necessary to hide this conspicuous color.

The atmosphere created is quite relaxed and is typical of summer houses in the area: comfortable furniture, light shades, unobtrusive design. Julie Hillman loves to mix comfortable everyday things with art and design objects of the 20th century - this is how interiors, as the designer asserts, add “sharpness”. The house looks as if the owners themselves were engaged in filling it: one can see the unity of taste, but it also creates the feeling that all items were bought at different times.

“It is important for me to build a decor in the same style,” says the designer. “Usually I take light tones as a basis — they clearly stand out against their background, with which I then complement the space.” I like large, voluminous objects with a pronounced texture, natural materials - roughness combined with cold and clean patina. I play with it, as if I make a patchwork, and am looking for balance. Sometimes it seems to me that I put all this on the scales and see how the bowls are balanced. ”

This interior is a good example of this approach. The ratio of beauty and practicality turned out to be the most verified and balanced.
