SHH created two new dining spaces within one of London's greatest 20th century architectural landmarks, the Barbican Centre. The first was Barbican Foodhall, a ground level restaurant and shop, with a range of deli-style products to buy or consume. As well as creating new branding and graphics (including sandwich bags, bags for life, cups, stickers and all directional signage), SHH created a completely new interior design scheme for the offer. The design approach was to link the space back to the wonderful architecture of the Barbican itself and to celebrate the building’s materiality by exposing the original concrete ceilings and using Cradley brick paver flooring, linking to all the existing external Barbican walkways, whilst adding striking feature areas, innovative lighting (using stunning stacks of olive jar lights, specially-created by PSLAB in Beirut), furniture (vintage and bespoke) and interesting materials and details.
