Dmitry and Tatiana Khoroshevy decorated the house near the Pokrovskoe-Rubtsovo estate near Moscow, filling it with antiques and modern furniture.

“We are generally lucky for customers who initially want the classics. This married couple - Anglophiles, in love with antiquity. But they bought a modern house, ”begins Dmitry. In fact, they were not attracted by the house, but by the plot in the village near the Pokrovskoe-Rubtsovo estate. At first the estate belonged to the Nashchokin family, and in the XIX century it was acquired by Savva Morozov. The patron of art patron invited Fyodor Shekhtel, who partially changed the facade and completely redid the interiors, to restore the mansion. In the renovated manor, Morozov received Chekhov, Stanislavsky, Vasnetsov, Levitan, Serov and many other cultural and art workers of the time.

In these historical places there were thirty acres of land, which the Horoshevs customers purchased. The site was with a height difference of fifteen meters, but on it grows quite a lot of trees, thanks to which neighbors are not visible either in summer or in winter.

The couple took the choice of architects very seriously - they reviewed many interior magazines, where they found Tatyana and Dmitry, and came to the first meeting with ready-made wishes for the future project. “This is a family of two people, their parents and an adult daughter live separately, so they needed a house only for themselves,” says Tatyana.

The first floor is occupied by a large hall, a living room, a winter garden, a dining room, a kitchen and utility rooms, and the second is the master's chambers. Dmitry explains: “In the private zone there is a“ unloading ”hall, from which we get to the owner’s office, the hostess’s boudoir, the bedroom and the bathroom.”

Visually, the office stands out among all the rooms in the house, it is the most “English”. Here the customer spends a lot of time: working, resting, listening to music and drinking whiskey, so he paid special attention to the design of his personal space. The upper part of the walls was covered with checkered wallpaper, and the lower one was covered with wooden panels, some of which hide cabinets and multimedia systems.

“In the closed form, it looks like we are in a time when television has not yet been invented,” laugh Horoshevy. But the decanters for whiskey is really from those times - the owners love antiques and gladly chose it. Such things give this house the feeling of antiquity that customers wanted so much.

Dmitry says: "Formally, there are all the attributes of a classic interior, but they are slightly revised." For example, an unusual stucco on the ceiling in the bedroom is made based on the pattern on the bedspread. In England, Khoroshevy found a company that makes only bedspreads and pillows. “They sew velvet strips on a linen base, it turns out beautiful English classics, while they have no ready-made solutions, you need to choose the color of flax and the color of velvet,” says Tatiana.

The winter garden, on the other hand, looks very modern. Here is a minimalist, carefully thought-out finish of neutral tones: oak on the walls, travertine on the floor with brass inserts. All in order not to be distracted from the main thing - plants that are both inside and outside. Dmitry explains: “There is a panoramic window in the winter garden and there are no curtains, the idea was that in summer the green outside the window would act like a diorama”.


An unusual two-sided fireplace, resembling an aquarium, is built into the wall between the winter garden and the living room, and an unusual object hangs opposite. “We thought for a long time what to do when entering the living room, in the end we chose an English tapestry with unicorns, deer, sheep, pigeons, hedgehogs and hares and picked up velvet upholstery to it,” says Tatyana. Horses are depicted on the far wall - the Khoroshevi decided to beat the theme of the place where the house is located, and asked the artist’s friend to draw a hunting scene against the background of the Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo manor. Now the owners observe every day a sample of a noble country life both on the painting inside and outside the gate.
