At the end of the XIX century, Barcelona was considered one of the leading cities in terms of modernism. Casa Burés was built in 1900-1905 by the Catalan architect Frances Berenger, who, by the way, often collaborated with Antonio Gaudi.
The house was named after its first owner, Francesca Bure, the founder of one of the most successful Spanish textile companies. Its headquarters was on the first floor, Bure himself lived with the family on the second floor, and the remaining four had rented apartments.
For the past three years, the reconstruction of Casa Burés has been carried out by Bonavista Developments and Europa Capital. According to Marcus Donaldson, the founder of Bonavista Developments, in the process of restoration, every detail of the house was studied by experts in the field of the modernist heritage of Catalonia. “Some elements were manually restored by local craftsmen, and the rest were replaced by new ones that correspond to the modern way of life,” says Marcus.
The main problem faced by the team during the restoration process was the condition of the building. The modernist house stood abandoned for ten years, so part of the furniture and sculptures at the time of reconstruction was unsuitable.

In the process of working on the interiors of apartments, the studio estudio vilablanch tried to emphasize and “beat” the existing contrast between the old and the new elements of the decor. Designers partially retained original materials, mosaic floors of Nolla and stucco on high ceilings, complementing the interior with modern furniture and diluting everything with new color schemes.
