Claire Holt was looking for somewhere to start a family when she found her current home in West Hollywood. “My husband was and continues to be based in Miami,” Holt, who recently announced the news that she is expecting her first child, explains. “And I was floating between places, depending on where I was filming, but we also wanted a proper place in L.A.”
Holt enlisted realtor Steven Schaefer to find her dream home in 2017. Schaefer showed them approximately 25 properties over the course of two months before a decision was made. “We had such a visceral reaction when we saw this house,” Holt remembers. “Some modern homes feel like overdesigned concrete boxes—like museums—but this one was warm and cozy. A real home.”
Another draw was the fact that Holt and her husband would be the first people to live in the 4,600-square-foot structure, which was completed by Adam Rimon of Rimon Construction only a few months prior to their tour of the property. “The place was brand-new and spotless,” the actress, who famously appeared on the cult television shows The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars, continues. “Everything was perfectly finished; every space had been utilized. It was very important for us to find a house that was both in a walkable location and that needed minimal construction. This one checked all the boxes.”

The only “renovation," per se, was converting one of the home’s five, now four, bedrooms into a media room for Holt’s husband. “We have five and a half bathrooms, one of which is in there. So, now he can watch hours of sports without leaving—not even when he needs a shower!”

Because the space was such a blank canvas, however, Holt knew she would need a skilled designer to lead the project. Enter: Suzy Kloner, Marina del Rey–based owner of Suzy Kloner Design.
“This was a dream job for me,” Kloner says. “Claire is Australian, and there’s a lot of overlap between Australian and Californian design sensibilities. We had the same vision: polished and clean, but with coastal vibes.”
Kloner echoes that the couple didn’t need to do much before moving on to furnishing—just add some plaster, wall coverings, and one-of-a-kind Turkish rugs to absorb sound in the large home. She spent three months sitting with Holt on the floor of the empty master bedroom, developing a plan for a “warm and inviting” home that would bring in natural elements like wood, brass, and iron—not to mention enough indoor plants to satisfy a forest.
“The real challenge, if you can even call it one, is that the bottom floor is so open-concept,” Kloner adds. “All the rooms connect, so it was important to have all the sections flow nicely together, while still maintaining their distinct purpose. It was a balancing act.”

A particularly standout section is the seating area just a few feet away from the living room’s Restoration Hardware Cloud Sofa. “I love this space,” Holt gushes. “I find people gravitate to it more than to the couch. It’s a circle—so you can face each other—and I like the conversation it creates.” Another interesting item is the petrified-wood end table located in front of a fireplace in the couple’s bedroom. “It’s the perfect little piece—so unique and literally from a million years ago,” Kloner explains.
