CM Studio renovate and extend onto a narrow semi-detached home in Bronte, Sydney to meet a family’s current and future needs with their infallible style.
Time and time again CM Studio prove to us why they are the masters of their own philosophy: to reveal beauty in simplicity. When it came to this Bronte home, CM Studio worked within the constraints of a small, narrow semi-detached abode and to the daily rituals of a young family. White but not precious, functional but not cold, this is a light, low-maintenance and happy place for a family of four to grow.

The addition and renovation was to be tailored to a professional couple with twin girls. The biggest priority was that the Bronte home didn’t just cater to how they live now, but well into the girls’ teenage years. Preferring a white and contemporary palette, they came to CM Studio with a want for the feeling of spacious living areas and refined detailing.
To let the home feel expansive while being restricted in width, CM Studio changed the home’s configuration while adding on. Structurally the addition is built by Danish brand Peterson Bricks that are also exposed indoors. Bringing the living a little closer to the outdoor area and garden was key to encouraging easy and open family living and welcoming some much-needed natural light. As sunlight is often more challenging to access in a semi-detached house, skylights were introduced to bring light into spaces that truly lacked, such as over the staircase. This also helped to address another issue faced in the semi-detached project: privacy. As part of the concern for privacy and change of layout, the front door has been relocated to the side of the home away from the two front bedrooms.
