Karls kitchen is the new restaurant of the Breuninger
luxury department store in Stuttgart. The kitchen is
the central element of the free-flow restaurant.
The restaurant entrance is characterised by large
glass refrigerators that also function as display
windows. This way, when guests enter walking
through the kitchens, they are only separated from

the fresh produce by a large glass wall. The function
of the bar is twofold: on the kitchen side it offers
home-made foods and drinks, while the bar adjacent
to the lounge area invites guests to enjoy a nice glass
of wine, a local beer or one of the coffee specialities.
The restaurant is divided into three different seating
areas, each with its own identity and character.

There is a traditional seating area, which refers to
Breuninger?s (and Stuttgart’s) history and traditions.
The modern seating area represents the Stuttgart
of today, while the Lounge serves as a refuge and
connection between the modern and traditional
seating areas.
